Chicago Art Deco Wedding || Styled 1920s Wedding Shoot

Up today, a beautiful Chicago art deco wedding shoot from Spark + Tumble Photography. One of my favorite American cities, Chicago boasts incredible architecture around every corner, including the gorgeous buildings featured in this styled 1920s wedding shoot: the Madonna della Strada Chapel at Loyola University and The Powhatan Apartments.

The details are amazing, the interiors are perfection and the moody spring weather in the outdoor shots only adds to the beauty. I absolutely adore them! Take a look! (click on images to see larger sizes.)

Vintage Winter Wedding || Emma + Nick

Art Deco Winter PrintThere’s something undeniably romantic about winter weddings. Maybe it’s the coziness factor, or the potential for formal-wear snowball fights, or the opportunity to wear a lovely (faux) fur stole, or all of the above. But I love them!

One of the best weddings I’ve ever been to was a winter wedding in New York City, and I still remember it so fondly. While I’m certain the bride and groom were less-than-enthused about the massive snowstorm that overtook the city just hours prior, there was no denying it created an atmosphere of warmth and camraderie. Nothing like being handed a steaming mug of hot cider before the ceremony, just as you come in from the cold. Switch out of those boots and into some heels and you’re ready to party!

Which is why it should not surprise anyone that I loved this lovely art deco winter wedding, sent to us from Samantha Hook Photography. From the bride’s beautiful genuine vintage gown, to the fabulous venue, to the snowfall(!) just in time for photos, this looks like the perfect evening.

1930s Style Wedding || Magdaleen + Kris

Up today we’ve got this absolutely lovely 1920s / 1930s style wedding from Moira West.

These two (Magdaleen and Kris) are not only an almost infuriatingly beautiful couple, as you can see above they also just look like they’re having such a blast, which is just as it should be on your wedding day! Add to it the perfect 20s/30s inspired design elements, from her makeup to dress, and it’s an altogether wonderful looking event.

Old Hollywood Deco Wedding || Dorota + Fred

Well here is a perfect old Hollywood inspired wedding to end the week, sent to us from photographers davina + daniel, and positively overflowing with fabulous deco details.

From the bride…

Growing up, I don’t recall ever dreaming about my wedding. Instead, I dreamt of living in the fantasy world of the 1930-1940 RKO Musicals in the company of the of the dandy Fred Astaire, as Ginger Rogers did in the movie Top Hat or Roberta. I loved the Art Deco sets, the clothing and the way they spoke to eachother. Without knowing it, planning the wedding, I was trying to make this lifelong fantasy come true. To me an Art Deco/Old Hollywood wedding was the perfect theme : it has the Art Deco refined, sharp and daring modern lines while Old Hollywood stood for cinema, glamour, bold colors, class and style.

We couldn’t agree more! Take a look at these gorgeous images (click through for full size.)

The Great Gatsby || Baz Luhrmann

Well, the trailer for Baz Luhrmann’s long-awaited (or long-dreaded, depending on your tastes…) version of The Great Gatsby is here!

That is… well, it is interesting. Interestingly scored, interestingly cast… there will certainly be lots to look at, style-wise.

Baz Luhrmann Great Gatsby Still

The Great Gatsby is a perennial favorite for vintage-wedding inspiration, and there is certainly a lot of eye candy in the trailer. Any thoughts?

Vintage 1920s Wedding Photos

We’re back! Sorry for the delay in posting, it has been a crazy few weeks. But here we are. And tonight we’ve got a lovely set of vintage wedding photos courtesy of Michelle McMurray, founder of Wedding Story Writer. These images are scans of actual wedding photos from the 1920s and 30s, and there are so many fascinating details to be inspired by!

First up, this elegant lady, resplendent in pearls, white opera gloves and a to-die-for jeweled art nouveau / art deco headband.

1920s Wedding Gown

Can’t you just feel how luxe those fabrics are, even through the sepia? Amazing.

Now for some bridal party inspiration… check out these dapper fellows and their dates.

1920s Wedding Party

Gorgeous! All of it. Love the tuxes, the short dresses (even on the bride!), the hair, the cap veil, and those huge 20s style overflowing, draped bouquets (note to self: need to do a “huge 20s bouquet” post soon.) And speaking of fabulous florals…

1920s Bridesmaid

Simply lovely (and perfect hair!). Also lovely? Our next bride, smiling and stunning on her wedding day.

1930s Bride

And finally: this beaded cap-veiled beauty. Check out those metallic flapper t-strap shoes (and the edgy deco backdrop for this photo, dated May 17th, 1930.)

Art Nouveau Wedding || Inspiration Shoot

Received this gorgeous submission from Gideon Photography, and what a pretty inspirational shoot this was. Nothing art deco here, but some beautifully art nouveau / turn of the century design elements and inspiration pieces. It doesn’t hurt to have a couple who looks like this showing it all off…

So yes! We love. Beautiful and specifically art nouveau inspired styling in the invites, the unbelievable stained glass cake, a fabulous 192os juliet cap veil on the bride… all around loveliness in each and every detail!

Deco Style Wedding || Joey + Justin

Well look what lucky ducks we are today! I’m so delighted to feature this beautiful real wedding sent to us from Sydney, Australia via photographer Lachlan Burrell.

This one is just chock full of gorgeous deco details, including the bridal car: that unbelievable 1922 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost above. Good. LORD. Incredible! As are the rest of the photos from this fabulous affair. Lovely couple, impeccable taste and the perfect photographer to capture each moment. Truly love this one!

1930s Wedding Inspiration Shoot

Many thanks to shoot coordinator and stylist Sarah over at Sarah Giggar Makeup Artistry for sending this beautiful 30s inspired (and overall inspiring) shoot our way. I just loved everything about these photos, starting with the location: the historic Hotel Florence building in Missoula, Montana.

Hotel Florence Montana
One of my favorite things about this shoot is how beautiful it is, but also how simple. Thrift / consignment gown, Etsy accessories… add in eagle-eyed styling, wonderful photography, pitch-perfect hair and makeup and a dreamy vintage-inspired bouquet and we’re set. Take a look!
