From the bride:
Our advice to other couples would be to plan in advance so that you don’t stress yourself out through the process. Also, this is supposed to be the happiest day of your life so find reasons to make each step a celebration throughout the process[…] On the day of your wedding plan plenty of time to get ready with your girls and guys as this will set the tone for your day and you want to feel relaxed and excited.
The one thing that I was sure of is that I wanted my bouquet to be classic, romantic, simple and not take away from my dress. My favorite flowers are orchids and Jack Hadden Florals did a gorgeous job at creating a sophisticated art deco inspired, monochromatic white orchid bouquet; hand tied with ivory ribbon and accented with a beautiful crystal broche with the base of the stems encrusted with pearls.
The most special DIY item would be my wedding veil. I have always wanted a classic birdcage veil ever since I saw Reese Witherspoon in “Sweet Home Alabama” and after looking for the perfect veil and not falling in love with any of the price tags, my mother who had designed my aunt’s wedding gown surprised me by making the perfect marriage to my dress with a stunning classic birdcage veil accompanied by a pearl accented barrette.
Adam and I were driven to The Carolina Hotel after the ceremony in a 1920s Ford Model T which was perfect for the vibe of the wedding, but also a great tribute to Adam’s dad spending most of his life working for Ford in Detroit.
Try to make time to spend with as many of your guests as possible. Expect the unexpected, and go with the flow especially for the day of. We had a hurricane cancel our original wedding and instead of letting it ruin the most special time of our life we embraced that weekend as time to join our two immediate families together in a big slumber party.
Once the second wedding weekend came we were much more relaxed as we knew so much had already gone not as planned, that we were just beyond grateful to have all of our family and loved ones rescheduled to celebrate with us; which then became an even more memorable occasion!
