Mary Astor || 1920s Hollywood

Mary Astor, discovered at age 14, was one of the few silent stars who successfully made the transition to talkies. Perhaps best known now for her role in “The Maltese Falcon”, she appeared in over 120 films over the course of her career.

She was smart and witty (she once said, “There are five stages in the life of an actor: Who’s Mary Astor? Get me Mary Astor. Get me a Mary Astor Type. Get me a young Mary Astor. Who’s Mary Astor?”), she was talented, and of course, she was beautiful. A fabulous style icon for the 20s and 30s! (click the images for larger sizes and links)

The Great Gatsby || Visual Effects Video

Well yes indeed, it is another (probably the last, though who can be sure) post about Baz Luhrmann’s film version of The Great Gatsby. We’ve previously discussed the Gatsby trailer and Tiffany & Co.’s Gatsby jewelry. Last up: this video highlighting the creation of the background and special effects…whether or not you are a fan of the final product, hard to argue this isn’t kinda fascinating, so I had to share (full-screen it for the best view…)

(the song playing is Lana Del Rey’s Young + Beautiful from the Gatsby Soundtrack)
