Today we’re going to spend some time with some of our favorites pieces of Art Deco pearl jewelry. Why? Why not! Also, though, because it is both a classic vintage gem ideal for brides, as well as the third June birthstone we’ll be featuring on the site (after previously discussing art deco moonstone jewelry as well as art deco alexandrite jewelry.)
Pearls are the only gemstones made by living creatures, and come in a wide variety of types (and price points!). The rarest pearls are “natural” and made without human interference. The majority of pearls sold today are cultured, and therefore easier to create and obtain, and so more affordable.
Both types are beautiful, as well as delicate and soft, ranging between 2.5 and 4.5 on the Mohs scale. We’ll be showcasing both cultured and natural pearls in our feature today. First up we have this stunning piece, featuring a large, natural golden pearl from the South Seas:
